Installation of AAC Blocks – A Complete Guide

Installation of AAC Blocks

Introduction

In this new era of construction, AAC blocks are highly in demand due to its unique features, making it an ideal solution for every building activity. The AAC blocks are manufactured using recycle materials which further enhance its compressive strength and its honey-comb design confined the air within ensuring high sound resistant material. These benefits of AAC blocks make it a perfect choice for every construction since its inception. As we all know, AAC Blocks are different from conventional blocks, it’s equally important to understand its installation process in order to achieve the higher benefits without damaging it.

In this article, we will try to understand the complete installation process of AAC blocks.

a. Stake the wall

The construction of a wall may be carried out by aligning the outside block margin of the concrete wall. With the help of constructional tools such as rubber mallet and twine line, which will help in ensuring whether the stake is in straight line or not.

b. Prepare a foundation

The foundation for the wall is made up of concrete and should be of four inches wider than the blocks which ensures that the concrete foundation acquire the required strength.

c. Laying of blocks

Before laying the blocks, make the block is wet properly for better adhesion. With the help of a brush, clean the entire surface and ensure the adhesion is applied on a clean surface. Now pick each block one by one and place it close to each other but make sure that the block covers the entire adhesion. And the mortar joining should be limited to 10 to 12 mm (for regular cement mortar) and 3 to 4 mm (for ready-made joining mortar).

d. Coping beam or Bond Beam

After reaching the height of 1.2 m, two coping beam is required to place between the blocks in order to increase the strength and stiffness of masonry walls.

e. Curing of Masonry wall

The Curing is required only for concrete cement mortar to give extra strength but it’s not necessary for ready mix mortar.

f. Cutting of blocks

In order to achieve good finishing, cut the blocks using a hacksaw or rotary cutter for required dimension.

g. Lentil Support

A minimum of 200 mm edge support is required for the blocks. Further the lentil should be placed under the mortar bed for strong support.

h. Plastering

Lastly, for a smooth and clear finish, plastering of about 15mm is mandatory.

Conclusion

We can conclude by saying that, AAC blocks need its own installation procedure due to its unique attributes which make it different from conventional bricks and last long for generations to come.
